Onderzoekers rond Kevin Wu<\/a> van de Harvard-universiteit zouden een stof hebben gesynthetiseerd<\/a>, cresomycine, die veelbelovende antiobiotische eigenschappen zou hebben. Cresomycine zou ook bacteriesoorten doden die resistent zijn geworden voor veel antibiotica die nu gebruikt wordt. Allerwegen zijn onderzoekers op zoek naar nieuwe antibiotica om een dreigende resistentiecrisis<\/a> af te wenden.
\nCresomycine lijkt scheikundig gezien op clindamycine<\/a>, maar zou zich effectiever aan de ribosomen<\/a> van verschillende bacteri\u00ebn binden. Dat zagen de onderzoekers bewaarheid in onder meer celkweken en bij proeven met muisjes. Ribosomen zijn de ‘celfabriekjes’ van (ook) bacteri\u00ebn waar eiwitten worden aangemaakt en daarmee wezenlijk voor het voortbestaan van het organisme.<\/p>\n

Kennelijk hebben bacteri\u00ebn hun ribosomen zo veranderd dat dat antibiotica die daar het organisme aanvatten niet meer zo effectief zijn. Cresomycine pakt niet alleen gram<\/a>positieve, maar ook gramnegatieve bacteri\u00ebn aan waaronder de multiresistente Staphylococcus aureus<\/em> (MRSA<\/a>; waarbij de M ook wel staat voor meticilline), Escherichia coli<\/a><\/em> en Pseudomonas aeruginosa<\/a><\/em>. Daarmee zou het een breedbandantibioticum zijn, breder dan de momenteel gebruikte lincosamides<\/a> als clindasmycine.<\/p>\n

Meer mogelijk<\/h2>\n

Op basis van de mogelijke molecuulstructuren zou het best nog wel eens zo kunnen zijn dat andere verbindingen nog beter werken dan cresomycine, stellen Wu en de zijnen, maar vooralsnog moeten die nog beproefd worden. Ook moet nog worden uitgezocht of de stof veilig bij mensen is te gebruiken. Voorlopig blijven de onderzoekers nog wel onderzoeken en bijschaven voor hun producten ook echt klinisch getoetst worden en, na succes, klinisch zullen worden toegepast.<\/p>\n
