\"lichtchipsfabriekTNO en High Tech Campus Eindhoven beginnen met de bouw van, naar verluidt, \u2019s werelds allereerste proeffabriek<\/a> voor de productie van in-diumfosfidelicht-chips op de Eindhovense ‘campus’. “Met deze fabriek zet TNO een unieke stap: voor het eerst bouwen we een industri\u00eble proeflijn”, zegt TNO-directeur Tjark Tjin-A-Tsoi<\/a>.

\nTsjin-A-Tsjoi: “Door onderzoek en productie dicht bij elkaar te brengen, versterken we de positie van Nederland binnen het Europese halfgeleiderlandschap en helpen we bedrijven om sneller en effici\u00ebnter hoogwaardige fotonische technologie op te schalen. Dit is een investering in onze technologische slagkracht \u00e9n in toekomstige economische groei.”
\nDe nieuwe fabriek is meer dan een faciliteit, stelt TNO. Het zou een nationaal en Europees ‘vliegwiel’ voor innovatie moeten zijn. Nu de vraag naar lichtchips – die data verwerken met licht in plaats van elektronen – exponentieel groeit, zou TNO een belangrijke functie bieden in het ecosysteem door de infrastructuur om deze technologie veilig en op industri\u00eble schaal te testen en tot wasdom te brengen.<\/p>\n

Strategische autonomie voor Europa<\/h2>\n

De investering van 150 miljoen euro is een direct resultaat van de ambitie van de chipswet van de EU. Als onderdeel van het pan-Europese consortium PIXEurope<\/a> moet de fabriek ervoor zorgen dat de ‘hersenen’ van de toekomstige digitale economie op eigen bodem worden ontwikkeld en geproduceerd.
\nMinister Heleen Herbert<\/a> (CDA) van Economische Zaken en Klimaat, die aanwezig was bij de steenleggin: \u201cMet deze investering gaan we aan de slag om van kennis en innovatie naar concrete toepassingen van ge\u00efntegreerde fotonica te komen. Ons doel is om met deze sleuteltechnologie een sterke Europese concurrentiepositie te krijgen. Zowel als het gaat om kennis, innovatie, toelevering als eindproductie. Dat is nodig voor de Nederlandse banen en inkomsten van de toekomst, het oplossen van maatschappelijke uitdagingen en onze nationale veiligheid.\u201d
