Onderzoekers van de Concordia-universiteit in Montr\u00e9al\u00a0(Can) hebben een microtechnologie ontwikkeld<\/a>, die de elektrische energie vergaart die de fotosynthese en ademhaling van blauwalgen (cyanobacteri\u00ebn) teweegbrengen. Een nieuwe poging om d\u00e9 technologie te vinden om groene energie mee op te wekken.<\/p>\n

Energieopwekking moet schoon en kooldioxidevrij worden. Dat is nog niet eenvoudig en heel wat onderzoeksgroepen over de hele wereld knutselen aan d\u00e9 oplossing. Het is niet waarschijnlijk dat er \u00e9\u00e9n oplossing is, maar dit terzijde. De onderzoekers rond Muthukumaran Packirisamy<\/a> gokken op de blauwalgen<\/a> en dus op de zon. Zowel de fotosynthese die cyanobacteri\u00ebn gebruiken voor hun energievoorziening, net als planten, als hun ademhaling gaan gepaard met elektronenoverdracht. De onderzoekers zijn er kennelijk in geslaagd die ‘los lopende’ elektronen te vangen, zonder dat de micro-organismen het loodje legden. Hun microcel bestaat uit twee polen en een ‘protonmembraan’. De cyanobacteri\u00ebn zitten in een ruimte rond\u00a0de anode, terwijl bij de kathode een redoxverbinding ‘huist’. Daardoor zouden er elektronen via de anode naar de kathode worden ‘getrokken’. De cel zou een spanning kunnen opwekken van bijna 1 V bij een vermogensdichtheid<\/a> van 36 W\/cm2<\/sup>. De cel zou kunnen worden ‘opgevoerd’ door het ontwerp te verbeteren, denken de onderzoekers. De onderzoekers werken nu verder aan methodes de microcellen op een economisch verantwoorde wijze te maken.<\/p>\n
